Whether solving society’s challenges such as water scarcity, access to drinking water, protecting water resources, or reducing our water footprint, Royal HaskoningDHV provides technological solutions that meet these challenges. With Royal HaskoningDHV’s digital innovation, Aquasuite, a software built with deep domain knowledge, utilities and industry are able to automate their operations and gain actionable insights on their water infrastructure.
Piloting technologies for Singapore’s Smart Water Future
In water-scarce Singapore, National Water Agency PUB is digitalising Singapore’s entire water system to improve operational excellence and meet future water needs. This is part of the continual investment in digital solutions to achieve smarter water quality management, network improvements and smarter work processes for the country.
Royal HaskoningDHV’s Aquasuite software was deployed at PUB’s Integrated Validation Plant (IVP)* at Ulu Pandan Water Reclamation Plant (UPWRP) in March 2019. The software is currently undergoing a two-year trial to validate the reduction of energy consumption in water reclamation processes, chemical use and reliance on manpower while increasing water quality.
The Aquasuite software was introduced to provide the operator and management with predictive insights while improving plant performance through machine learning and control. Connecting to the plant’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to gather data and control key processes, it sends data out to the Aquasuite® cloud solution through a secure data diode. With the data collected near real-time in the cloud, the software is able to track actual performance of the on-premise solution through a digital replica. More advanced analytics are made available to the operator through the cloud, including anomaly detection, soft sensors, predictions and predictive simulations, while the onpremise part keeps optimising real-time performance.
“PUB recognises that technology and innovation are cornerstones in our mission of supplying high quality water and reusing used water endlessly. This pilot trial demonstrates how digital solutions like Aquasuite can seamlessly digitise and automate our water reclamation operations,” said Dr Kelvin Koh, general manager of the Ulu Pandan Water Reclamation Plant
Aquasuite is a proven smart water technology that monitors, analyses, visualises and controls the performance of water and wastewater infrastructure through predictive analytics and machine learning. Its AI-powered analytics and autopilot provide full real-time visibility across the complete water and wastewater network and treatment and controls day-to-day operations.
Aquasuite consists of five products, each addressing a different challenge in the drinking water and wastewater process. The products work separately yet integrate seamlessly to create a powerful tool to control drinking water and wastewater proficiently. Aquasuite PURE is the product for wastewater treatment which is implemented in a pilot project with PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency.
Michel de Koning, Associate Director of Aquasuite: “We believe that data-driven solutions can deliver an efficient, reliable and resilient water infrastructure. In the near future smart cities will have their complete water cycle optimised and operated holistically from one integrated solution: from source to tap and back again. We have built Aquasuite with that vision and are proud to see this demonstration project being implemented with PUB, one of the most forward-thinking utilities in the world.”
