Piloting technologies for Singapore’s Smart Water Future 

In water-scarce Singapore, National Water Agency PUB is digitalising Singapore’s entire water system to improve operational excellence and meet future water needs. This is part of the continual investment in digital solutions to achieve smarter water quality management, network improvements and smarter work processes for the country.


Royal HaskoningDHV’s Aquasuite software was deployed at PUB’s Integrated Validation Plant (IVP)* at Ulu Pandan Water Reclamation Plant (UPWRP) in March 2019. The software is currently undergoing a two-year trial to validate the reduction of energy consumption in water reclamation processes, chemical use and reliance on manpower while increasing water quality.

The Aquasuite software was introduced to provide the operator and management with predictive insights while improving plant performance through machine learning and control. Connecting to the plant’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to gather data and control key processes, it sends data out to the Aquasuite® cloud solution through a secure data diode. With the data collected near real-time in the cloud, the software is able to track actual performance of the on-premise solution through a digital replica. More advanced analytics are made available to the operator through the cloud, including anomaly detection, soft sensors, predictions and predictive simulations, while the onpremise part keeps optimising real-time performance.
